Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
