19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time coach his previous coach.
Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is his maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after that period of the previous year.
Success also means he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different events.
"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in that event previously this season.
The player's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved serving game.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.
The pair traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to force a final set.
The opponent saved four early break points in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.
Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
